What is Worldly FDM?

FDM stands for Worldly Facility Data Manager, a tool developed by Worldly for managing monthly environmental data. After setting up Site Info & Permits, facilities enter monthly quantitative data on production, energy, water and wastewater, waste and air emissions to track trends and progress against targets.

FDM is modeled on Higg FEM 4.0. Depending on the facility's reporting scope, it can cover up to 100% of FEM Level 1 quantitative data fields. It does not include all the qualitative FEM questions on policies, procedures and management systems.

FDM is an optional tool that can be used independently; it is not a FEM submodule or a mandatory preliminary step. FDM itself does not produce environmental-performance scores or levels like Higg FEM. A Validation report can show an overall accuracy percentage and question-level accurate/inaccurate findings. These are not Higg FEM scores or certification. Facilities or partners may arrange FDM Validation to obtain an independent review of monthly data and evidence.

When 12 months of FDM data for the same reporting year are available and the relevant conditions are met, data can be imported into Higg FEM by section. Facilities do not need to complete every FDM section and may manage only the sections they need. Importing data can reduce repeated entry of annual figures, but does not replace the remaining FEM self-assessment questions or FEM Verification.

PRACTICAL GUIDANCE

Programs and terms

Distinguish each program’s role and outputs.
  • FDM: Worldly’s optional tool for entering and managing monthly quantitative environmental data
  • FDM Validation: review of FDM data and evidence against agreed criteria by a listed Validation Body
  • Higg FEM: an annual facility environmental self-assessment with quantitative and qualitative questions
  • Higg FEM Verification: verification of FEM responses and evidence under Cascale’s separate process

RST INTERPRETATION

Uses and limits of results

Benefits depend on data readiness and intended use. Neither FDM nor Validation guarantees a level of environmental performance, customer approval or a FEM score.

ELIGIBILITY

Eligibility and preparation

  • 01Manufacturing facilities asked by customers or brands to use FDM or arrange FDM Validation
  • 02Facilities that want to manage monthly production, energy, water and wastewater, waste and air-emissions data
  • 03Facilities seeking independent review of monthly data and supporting evidence
  • 04Brands, vendors or supply chain organizations arranging FDM Validation across multiple facilities
  • 05Facilities intending to import FDM data into Higg FEM quantitative fields for the same reporting year
  • 06Worldly does not require all facilities to use or validate FDM. Confirm whether to use it, monthly submission units, entry schedules and Validation frequency, scope and deadlines with business partners.

BENEFITS

Potential benefits

  • 01Find missing monthly environmental data or outliers before annual aggregation
  • 02Track energy, water, waste and emissions trends against baselines and targets
  • 03Reduce repeated entry by importing eligible FDM data into Higg FEM quantitative fields
  • 04Improve confidence in monthly data and evidence through third-party Validation
  • 05Support the setup and operation of monthly environmental data management requested by brands and supply chain programs

PROCESS

Worldly FDM Validation process

  1. 01

[Facility / RST] Confirm customer requirements and scope

Confirm whether FDM is required, monthly submission units and data-entry schedules, Validation frequency, relevant sections, months and facilities, deadlines and sharing arrangements. Distinguish FDM Validation requirements from Higg FEM Verification requirements.

  2. 02

[Facility / RST] Agree the Validation plan and contract

Agree the reporting year and months, sections, evidence, review method, schedule and fees. If Higg FEM Verification is also required, establish its scope and contract separately.

  3. 03

[Facility] Enter and submit monthly data

Enter finalized monthly operating data and evidence in Worldly FDM. Each submission represents one month. Even when data are prepared quarterly, submit each month separately. Historical months can be entered retrospectively, but future months cannot be submitted.

  4. 04

[RST] Review data and evidence using the agreed method

Review responses, calculation bases and evidence for the selected months and sections under the agreed Validation criteria and Worldly workflow. Request clarification or further evidence where needed. If onsite checks are required, review relevant records and meters within the agreed scope. Confirm the specific method during consultation.

  5. 05

[Facility / RST] Resolve questions and complete Validation

The facility answers questions, provides evidence and corrects identified data errors. RST reviews responses against the agreed criteria and evidence and prepares a Validation report. It may show an overall accuracy percentage and question-level accurate/inaccurate results. These are not Higg FEM environmental-performance scores or certification. The facility reviews the report, requests edits where needed, and finalizes and posts the results on Worldly when satisfied.

  6. 06

[Facility] Share results and import data into FEM

Share FDM results as required by customers. Twelve monthly FDM submissions from the same reporting year allow self-reported data to be imported into FEM, provided every section and data source being imported has values for all 12 months. To import validated data, all 12 submissions for that reporting year must have completed Validation. Where some months are not yet validated, self-reported data can be imported first and re-imported after Validation is complete. Review the imported data for accuracy and completeness. Higg FEM Verification remains a separate process.

RST EXPERTISE

RST FDM Validation information

RST Co., Ltd. appears on Worldly’s official Facility Data Manager Approved Validation Bodies list checked on 7 September 2026. When contacting RST, provide the facility, reporting year and months, data sections, customer requirements and deadline. Confirm the Validation scope, method, frequency, timing and fees before contracting. FDM Validation and Higg FEM Verification are separate. Validation does not guarantee environmental performance, legal compliance, brand approval, commercial outcomes or FEM results.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Can FDM be used independently?
Yes. FDM is an optional Worldly tool, not a mandatory FEM submodule. Facilities that only need monthly quantitative environmental-data management can use FDM independently. FDM does not produce environmental-performance scores or levels like Higg FEM, although a Validation report can show overall accuracy and question-level findings. If 12 months of data for the same reporting year and the other conditions are met, relevant sections can also be imported into FEM. Whether FDM or Validation is needed depends on customer requirements and the facility's data-management objectives.
How long does FDM Validation take?
There is no universal duration. FDM supports continuing monthly data management. The timing and frequency of each Validation depend on facilities, months and sections covered, evidence completeness, method, questions and corrections. RST provides a schedule after discussing the scope and criteria with the customer and facility.
What can buyers and brands learn from FDM results?
Once a facility shares an FDM submission and the brand accepts it, the brand can see monthly production, energy, water and wastewater, waste and air-emissions data, Validation status and reports within the shared scope. Completed Validation indicates that the reported values and evidence have been independently reviewed, supporting confidence in the data. It does not constitute ESG certification, assurance of legal compliance, supplier approval or a Higg FEM score. Buyers interpret data under their own policies and supply chain programs.
How does FDM Validation differ from Higg FEM Verification?
FDM Validation reviews monthly quantitative environmental data and evidence entered in FDM. Higg FEM Verification checks quantitative and qualitative responses and evidence in an annual FEM self-assessment under Cascale's separate process. Their scope, criteria and outputs differ. Validating FDM data or importing them into FEM does not automatically complete FEM Verification.
Is Validation required before importing FDM data into FEM?
No. Self-reported data can be imported when the same reporting year has 12 monthly FDM submissions, provided each section and data source to be imported has data for all 12 months. To import validated data, all 12 monthly submissions must have completed Validation. If some months remain unvalidated, import self-reported data first and re-import after completing Validation. Importing data does not replace Higg FEM Verification.
